What will you be able to do after the security testing course?

From risk to proof, then to the report: skills you will be able to explain, put into practice and defend in front of a panel. For the context of the profession, read our article on security testing training.

Model threats

Run a security risk analysis and model an application’s threats (STRIDE, data flow diagram).

Test with tools

Run tool-based security tests on the main OWASP vulnerabilities and build security checks into a CI/CD pipeline.

Test APIs

Test the security of APIs and of their authentication.

Report and get certified

Write a professional security report with a remediation plan, and sit the ISTQB CT-SEC exam.

A specialization for testers who are already certified.

It is designed for QA testers, test automation engineers and quality engineers who want to specialize in application security. One to two years of software testing experience are recommended (official ISTQB recommendation for the CT-SEC).

Mandatory prerequisite

A valid ISTQB Foundation certification (CTFL): it is an official prerequisite for the CT-SEC exam. Language: classes are taught in French (Paris time), so you need fluent French and the ability to read technical English. Equipment: a personal computer (Linux, macOS or Windows 10+, 8 GB of RAM), an up-to-date browser and a stable internet connection.

Two formats, one program.

Evening classes are for individuals, full-time is for companies. Both follow the same modules, the same Capstone and the same CT-SEC exam preparation.

CAPCapstone project and defenseWeek 12 · defense in front of a panel4 h

You receive a practice application and deliver a complete security approach: threat modeling, a tool-based testing campaign, and a security report with a remediation plan. The defense, in front of a three-member panel that includes an external security professional, focuses on justifying your choices: why this threat is a priority, how the vulnerability was confirmed, which remediation and why.

  • Assessment rule: a rigorous analysis that you understand and can defend beats a pile of tools you have not mastered.

Your deliverableExit portfolio: the threat model, the tool-based testing campaign and the security report from the Capstone, in a personal repository.

ADC Professional Certificate “Security Tester” (CP-SEC)Awarded after a successful defense (score ≥ 60/100, no block at 0).

Each module ends with a competency gate (P1 to P3). If you fail, remediation is prescribed before the next module.

How is the course run, and within what framework?

Lots of practice, within a defensive and legal framework, with assessments at every step.

  1. 01

    A two-hour session

20 min of targeted input, 20 min of guided demonstration, 60 min of hands-on workshop in an isolated lab, 20 min of review, correction and summary.

  2. 02

    A defensive and legal framework

Identify and reduce risks, never cause harm. All practical work is done on practice targets provided by ADC, in an isolated and controlled environment, with explicit authorization.

  3. 03

    Support at every step

A placement interview and a check of the CTFL prerequisite before you start, competency gates at the end of each module, the Capstone defense, then a one-on-one review (feedback and showcasing your portfolio: resume, LinkedIn profile).

Career coaching by a business engineer

On top of the classes, an ADC business engineer coaches you one-to-one to prepare your job search, across six areas.

Writing your resume

We build a clear resume with you, centred on your projects and your skills.

According to a 2018 Ladders eye-tracking study, recruiters spent an average of 7.4 seconds on an initial resume screen, so the key points need to be easy to spot.

LinkedIn profile

Photo, headline, summary and skills: we write and fine-tune your profile together.

According to LinkedIn, members with a profile photo receive up to 2x more profile views.

Professional portfolio

Your course projects, presented as evidence of your skills that you can show to a recruiter.

Finding suitable opportunities

We help you target the job postings, unsolicited applications and contacts that fit your profile.

According to Apec (2026), 75% of French private-sector companies that hired executives in 2025 used unsolicited applications as a sourcing channel.

Psychology and self-confidence

Mental preparation work: handling stress, rejection and speaking up.

A meta-analysis of 47 studies (Liu et al., 2014) found that job seekers in programs combining skills and motivation had 2.67 times the odds of finding employment compared with control groups. It does not guarantee any individual outcome.

Theory and practice interviews

Theory questions, practical exercises and role-play, with feedback on every mock interview.

A 2022 meta-analysis (Sackett et al.) ranks structured interviews among the most predictive selection methods of job performance (validity of .42, versus an estimated .19 for unstructured interviews), so practicing structured questions is worthwhile. It describes selection quality, not any candidate’s odds.

Context: the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of software QA analysts and testers to grow 6% from 2025 to 2035. This is a U.S. national projection, not a guarantee of being hired.

The outcome depends on your background, your applications and the market: ADC does not guarantee a job, a salary or a placement.

Frequently asked questions about the security testing course

An advisor can also help you take stock of your plans.

Let’s talk about your plans
What is the prerequisite for the course?

A valid ISTQB Foundation certification (CTFL) is mandatory. The CTFL is an official prerequisite for the CT-SEC exam; without it, you cannot sit the exam. One to two years of software testing experience are recommended (official ISTQB recommendation for the CT-SEC). The prerequisite is checked during a placement interview, before entry.

How much time should I plan for each week?

In the evening-class format, about 10 hours of classes per week (60 two-hour sessions over 12 weeks), plus 4 to 6 hours of personal practice per week (labs, revision, Capstone), on top of the 140 h of the evening-class format.

Do you learn to attack real systems?

No. Offensive techniques are taught within a strictly defensive and legal framework: identify and reduce risks, never cause harm. All practical work takes place on practice targets provided by ADC, in an isolated and controlled environment, with explicit authorization. Any action outside the authorized perimeter leads to immediate deferral at the defense.

Which tools do we use?

Burp Suite Community (free) and OWASP ZAP for practice, Postman for requests and GitHub Actions for the checks built into the pipeline. A Burp Suite Professional demo shows the advanced features found on the market. You need a personal computer (Linux, macOS or Windows 10+, 8 GB of RAM), an up-to-date browser and a stable internet connection.

What is the difference between the ADC CP-SEC certificate and the ISTQB CT-SEC certification?

The ADC Professional Certificate is a private certificate from a training organization: not a degree, not a qualification registered with France’s RNCP, and not the ISTQB CT-SEC certification. It is issued by AutomationDataCamp after the three competency gates and the defense. The ISTQB CT-SEC certification is issued by ISTQB after you pass its official exam, which the course prepares you for and whose fees are included, with a second attempt if you fail.

What is the ISTQB CT-SEC exam like?

45 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes, with a 65% pass mark. It is taken online with remote proctoring or at a Pearson VUE center, and the certification is valid for life. To sit it, you need a score of at least 85% on the final mock exam of the prep weekend.

What happens if I do not pass a gate or the defense?

If you fail a competency gate, remediation is prescribed before the next module, and the gate can be retaken once. A candidate who fails the defense can retake it once within 30 days. A candidate who has not passed every gate is not admitted to the defense.

What is the difference between the two formats and the two prices?

Two paces, one program. The evening-class format (140 h over 12 weeks) is offered to individuals at €1,600 incl. VAT, opening price. The full-time format (399 h over 12 weeks, during the day) is offered to companies at €7,500 incl. VAT. The content is the same (modules M1 to M3, Capstone, CT-SEC exam preparation), with more supervised lab practice in full-time. The ISTQB CT-SEC exam is included in both, with a second attempt if you fail, and the CTFL prerequisite is the same.
